On Her Own Two Feet
She did it! Even I was amazed at the ease with which she stood up out of her wheelchair. It was a lot of effort to pivot - her feet still don't want to cooperate - but she did it and then... she took a step. You could have knocked me over with a feather! The lady from the home came today to re-evaluate Mom and even she was shocked at the improvement. They just have to dot a couple more "i"s and cross some "t"s and Mom is out of the hated rehab.
There are a couple more things that have to be done, but she's in, based on today's performance. Time to really get her room stuff together. There's a rented hospital bed, a dresser that I bought a few years ago, a brand new recliner (with heat!), and another dresser from her closet. She's also asked for the dressing table that used to be in the twin bed guest room - but I have no idea where it is. She says it's in the garage, but I doubt that. Probably in the storage unit. She wants that.
I'll need to find another chair for company, a TV with wireless headphones (she BLASTS the volume), and perhaps a small shelf for books and so the home healthcare people have a place to put their notebook. The room should stay as open as possible for wheelchair use. My contact there is checking to see if she can use the Zinger, but if she can't I need to arrange for a wheelchair too. We picked out the pictures she wants on her walls and they're stacked on the dining room table at the house. There's clothing to move, supplies to be ordered.
She wants a small computer, but I'm not sure that's such a great idea. In addition to mis-managing her medications, she's been doing weird stuff with her money. Dad closed some accounts and consolidated them, but she will be hopping mad to find that he's done that. It was necessary, but she won't see it that way. I hate to deprive her of her FaceBook and email, but I'm not sure how to give those to her while restricting access to her banking stuff. All this stuff is pretty dicey and I don't feel good about it, but needs must. I wish there were an easier way.
